Brittney Erkens came in to help score the quizzing for a round between classes. A Math Education Major with a Minor in Psychology, she is a Bob Jones Senior Graduating this May. She quizzed for 6 years, starting in 7th grade, with Hampton Park, on the team called the Victors. When she stared quizzing those years ago, she was quizzing out the same passages being quizzed over today, on the edge of her own seat at the jumps, though her team only won one quiz her first year. "I was just curious(about quizzing.) I had some friends that were doing it. When it first started, we had practice during the Sunday school hour. My parents didn't push us to quizzing, but supported us through it. Once I started, my sisters followed through. Except for the youngest. I have 4 younger sisters, but one isn't old enough to quiz yet. She was just born in May." During her time as a quizzer with Hampton Park in South Carolina, she quizzed with the upstate quizzers, and went to Athens, SCQANIT, and Nationals, the same competitions she helped with scorekeeping now. When asked what she took away from her time as a Bible quizzer, she had these words to pass on to the next generation. "The importance of bible quizzing is taking little bits of time aside to do something important, like learning God's word. The memorizing itself is important, and God will use his words, but its easy to get caught up in the competition. Remember What the word is about and Who its revealing. The time you spend in God's Word is important. I'm thinking of some friends of mine who did really good at memorizing the words, but not listening to God. Listen to God first. Quiz from what he tells you. He tells you in His word." And that's what Bible quizzing is all about.
