Hello Bible Quiz Fans,
Yesterday afternoon, the Southeast Bible Quiz Association held the fourth quiz meet of the 2017-2018 Bible quiz season. The event took place at the Temple Baptist Academy campus in Powell, TN. The field of teams included a team from Lakeview Baptist in Rhea County TN and two teams from Temple Baptist Church. Grace Christian Academy planned to participate but two of their quizzers fell sick and could not compete. As a result, we put Grace Christian’s team leader, Scott Firebaugh, on a Temple Baptist team that was missing quizzers due to the fact that the Temple youth choir was recording a CD yesterday. The late team changes resulted in a change from two team quizzing to three team quizzing.
In the first quiz match, Temple Diligence (Kierstin Balka, Lydia Huxley and Shelby Huxley) jumped out to an early lead with 100 points on question eight. Temple Optimism (Sydney Huxley, Sam Huxley, Luke Thompson and Scott Firebaugh) had 40 points and Lakeview Baptist (Joshua Jouben, Jadon Jouben, Jonathan Jouben and JuliAnn Jouben) had 20 points. It looked like it would be a run-away victory for Temple Diligence as they got four of the first six questions. But as the quiz match progressed Sydney Huxley and JuliAnn Jouben came to life. Going into the final question, the score was Temple Optimism 140, Temple Diligence 120 and Lakeview Baptist 110. On question 20, JuliAnn Jouben won the jump and gave a correct answer to seal the middle win for Lakeview Baptist. That victory seemed to fuel JuliAnn as she quizzed out with six correct answers and no errors on question 15 in the second quiz match. Lakeview Baptist won that quiz match with 170 points. Temple Optimism took second place with 130 points and Temple Diligence took the low with 80 points. The final quiz match seemed to be a back and forth match between Lakeview Baptist and Temple Diligence. Lydia Huxley got two correct questions early in this quiz match and then Kierstin quizzed out with six correct answers and two errors. Eventually, JuliAnn quizzed out but it was too late as Lydia Huxley sealed the win for Temple Diligence on question 19. It was a pleasure to watch these teams as they were very closely matched. To determine the winning team we awarded 10 points for each high win and 5 points for each middle win. When this was done, Temple Diligence took third place, Temple Optimism took second place and Lakeview Baptist was awarded the Team of the Month trophy.
There were two different quizzers that quizzed out forward with six correct answers in a single quiz match and won a Quiz Out Achievement Ribbon. They are as follows:
• Kierstin Balka – Temple Diligence
• JuliAnn Jouben – Lakeview Baptist
The Quizzer of the Month award was pretty decisive this month. Sydney Huxley had a strong third place finish with ten correct answers and five errors. Kierstin Balka had a strong second place finish with fourteen correct answers and five errors, but JuliAnn Jouben was the only quizzer to quiz out multiple times and the only quizzer to quiz out without error. She finished in first place with sixteen correct answers and only four errors.
I am attaching the team results and individual results for your review. It is very encouraging to see the time that these quizzers and their parents have invested in God’s Word, and it is exciting to think about the way God will use it in their lives in the years to come.
