Southeast Bible Quiz Association Results for the January 27 Quiz Meet

Hello Bible Quiz Fans,

The Southeast Bible Quiz Association held their annual Year-End Tournament yesterday at the Memorial Chapel at Temple Baptist Church in Powell, TN. It was an exciting event for those involved. The round robin competition started at 11:00 AM and finished with three teams tied with three wins and one loss. After tie breakers were applied, Temple Diligence (Kierstin Balka, Lydia Huxley, Sam Huxley, Sr. and David Thompson) was the top seed, Lakeview Baptist (Juliann Jouben, Jonathan Jouben, Joshua Jouben and Jadon Jouben) was the second seed and Temple Optimism (Carson Balka, Sam Huxley, Jr., Sydney Huxley and Luke Thompson) was the third seed.

In the first round of the double elimination tournament Temple Diligence got a real scare from Grace Christian Academy (Scott Firebaugh, Adam Chamberlain and Alissa Rhyne). After five questions, Grace Christian was winning 100 to 0 due to the brilliant quizzing of Scott Firebaugh. However, Temple Diligence then started rolling and Kierstin Balka quizzed out on question fifteen with a bonus to give her team the lead. Temple Diligence then went on to win 210 to 160. The other first round quiz was between Temple Optimism and Lakeview Baptist. Temple Optimism had not beaten Lakeview Baptist all year so the outcome seemed pretty certain, but Temple Optimism had all four quizzers involved and got the team bonus which resulted in a surprising 190 to 120 victory. In the third round, Temple Diligence faced Lakeview Baptist with a ton at stake. Temple Diligence beat Lakeview most of the year in the quiz meets but a loss for Lakeview would mean elimination from the tournament. Lakeview had a balanced team approach and got the team bonus. On question nineteen, the score was tied at 190. At that point, Lakeview won the jump and gave an incorrect answer. Lydia Huxley then gave a correct answer on the rebound and sealed the win for Temple Diligence. The championship quiz match was against Temple Diligence and Temple Optimism. In that quiz match, Temple Diligence raced out to an early lead and added to it both a team bonus and a bonus for Kierstin Balka quizzing out without error. In the end Temple Diligence won the quiz match 200 to 80.

I have attached the team results and the individual results for your review. It was a great year of quizzing and I am encouraged to think about all of the scripture that was stored away in minds and hearts of the quizzers this year!

In Christ and in His Word,

Mike Balka
