Quiz 1 w/Dr. Knapp: Indiana vs South Carolina vs North Carolina Good morning and welcome from Greenville, South Carolina. I have attended this tournament 6 times in 7 years in some capacity, and every year I've been here it has been rainy, which may or may not have caused me to be late, and frantically scramble to get set up before the first quiz starts. From what I heard I believe South Carolina won SQUANIT yesterday. Lets see if A) how they do, and B) the information given to me was accurate. Only 4 quizzers on their team however; lets see if that affects anything as the tournament progresses. Q1: NC misses, SC gets the rebound Q2: Initial jump for SC for 20 from chair 2. Q3: Another initial quote for SC from chair 2. Q4: NC avoids the shutout by getting their first question. Yay for technical difficults, not on my part, but on the part of the scorekeeper. Typically with excel when you have connecting formulas an invalid entry or a deleted cell can really mess up the program. Q5: Another answer from NC. Score after 5: IN 0 SC 60 NC 40. Q6: IN gets on the board with a 20. Q7: A misread quote, then Knapp calls on the wrong quizzer. That's two quizmaster errors already. Anyway, SC gets the question eventually. Q8: IN gets another to tie with NC. Q9: NC misses another question. They have the only two errors so far. IN gets the tossup. Q10: SC gets another, getting them to 100. Q11: NC catches IN with another correct. Score after 11: IN 60 SC 100 NC 60 Q12: Rare missed quote by SC, NC also misses, IN gets the free. NC gets the redo then calls a timeout. IN and NC both make a substitution. In other news, NC is twenty points away from the lead, and has used all their errors. Not sure if it was on purpose or not, but I always like a team who errors with no consequence. Knapp: "Praise the Lord for teenagers" after a SC quizzer fixes the scorekeeper's computer. Q13-14: NC nails two to get a 20 point lead. Q15: SC jumps and misses with no consequence, and IN gets the tossup. ERROR ZONE: Score after 15: IN 90 SC 100 NC 120. Q16-17: Chair 2 for SC gets her 4th and 5th to bump up to 140. Q18: She jumps again and misses, the other two don't bother, but on the redo NC makes it more interesting by misses their question, and Chair 2 on SC quizzes out on the tossup. 20 point game between IN and NC, with two to go. Q19: NC ices it with a correct answer, then boldly gets Q20 for the tie with SC. Score after 20: IN 90 (L), SC 150, NC 150 Tiebreaker: Finish this verse, and no-ones confident enough to jump, NC jumps on the second tiebreaker and misses, but SC also misses. Normally the difference between the middle and high is irrevelent, but due to the seeding they would get an easier matchup. NC finally gets the third OT question to win. Number one from NC also quizzed out on that question. Final Score IN 90 (L) SC 150 (M), NC 160 (H) Apparently the SC team that won SCQANIT yesterday is not the same team as the one competing. Like, literally not the same team. Jesse
