Quiz 4 w/Dr. Knapp: New Mexico vs Colorado vs Nebraska Colorado won the championship in 2004, and has more or less remained in contention since. They come into this quiz having only quizzed once, resulting in a high. The only team with a loss is New Mexico. Q1: Knapp opens with a reference question that is nailed by NE for the opening score. Q2: Knapp misreads the question that only Colorado jumped on, but CO gets the redo anyway. Q3: Another 20 for CO, but a foul on improper jump, which is the first foul called on that all day and its nice to see that people aren't really being a stickler on that. Q4-5: Two more for CO. Score after 5: NM 0 CO 80 NE 20 Q6: Fifth score in a row for CO and NE calls a timeout to slow them down. NM has yet to score, but to their credit, CO is looking like the most impressive team I've seen thus far and they are very very fast. Q7: 20 more for Colorado and this should be over after 10 questions. Q8: First error for CO (and of the quiz), error on NE, and NM gets a 10 point free. Last quiz in here came down to TN just sitting, knocking down a few frees, letting the other teams run up errors, and then nailing two of the last five. That may need to be the strategy of NM or NE. Another error for CO, NE gets the tossup, but CO challenges. However, after accepting the first two challenges of the day, Knapp overrules his 3rd in a row. Q9: 20 for CO to avoid a loss by Q9. Q10: Another for CO. Yawn. Score after 10: NM 10 CO 160 NE 40 Q11: 2nd error for NE, by NM blows their chance to gain ground on NE by erroring for the first time. CO gets the free. CO gets the redo as chair 5 has quizzed out. Of the 220 points availabe, CO has scored 180. Q12: NE gets 3rd correct to pull away by 50 from NM. Q13: Another 20 for NE. NM needs some charge. Q14: Error for CO to use their final free error (as if it mattered), NM gets the rebound to pull within 50 on NE. Now that chair 5 on CO has quizzed out, the playing field seems to have evened out. Q15: Error for CO and NM gets the rebound. They're within 30 after knocking down two straight. Lets see how the error zone plays a role in the final outcome. Score after 15: NM 50 CO 180 NE 80 Q16: NE jumps way too early on a chapter reference, which is instinctal if you feel you desperately need a score, and a common trap. NM gets the tossup to tie with NE at 70. Q17: CO errors (why are they still jumping?), NM gets the rebound (all of their 20 point questions have come from tossups BTW). Q18: I lied, NM jump got their first initial and lead NE by 40. NE needs the last two. Q19-20: NE makes it interesting by getting the last two! Wow! Finally some excitement. At the end of 20 we're tied at 110 for NM and NE. OT: Book reference with an operative word is missed by NM, and NE sends New Mexico home. Final Score: NM 100 CO 170 NE 130 Colorado looked dominant (could've been the competition), but great resilence by Nebraska to keep their poise as their lead disappeared. And a great show of clutch by slaying the last two questions and the tiebreaker. An exciting quiz for the first time today.
