Sorry, didn't mean to overlook you… I guess there's two. But all us 'retired' quizzers outnumber you like 3:1. You can't win!

Btw Luke, my name is “David Thomas”, Glory only called me “Thomas” so as to diffientiate between Mr. Poston and myself.
Luke: Regarding your ratios, upon what basis is a person considered retired?
Aaron: No, this picture is just a random one I took of a place I worked at last summer. My “deep in thought” picture got lost and I haven't taken the time to make it again.

Yah, I know… It's just you don't have that in your username, so I didn't know if you wanted it on the board. Some people are funny about that kinda stuff. As for a retired quizzer, once you graduate I highschool i guess… so that makes me retired for about a month or so now! So I'm not too far removed from the quizzing world just yet…

But there are quite a few quizzers that are attending college, are they considered “retired” while they are yet still quizzing?

Hm… I guess I never heard of college quizzing, other than that quiz they have down in Florida on the 4th or around then. Do they special tourneys or what? And how do you spend time on school, work, and verses? Talk about multi talented!

No, some of them quiz in AACS just like every one else. Although most styles end quzzing around the time people start attending college, some do not and allow people to quiz as long as they are able to or wish.
Grace: Unfortunately I must disagree with you. But only because of the fact that Glory actually does have an account here, she just apparently chooses not to use it.

Hey, you're going to college this fall, right? So will you continue your quizzing 'career', or not? I honestly don't see how it could be done, with all the time needed to learn the verses. It was hard enough in high school.

Considering the time of GaceAbekah's post I would think she was talking about Joy's (younger sister) 8 o'clock medications. But we'll have to wait and see.
Grace: I'll cover your questions when I finish the other reply.

Let's see if I can help (probably not but I am giving it a shot)..
I think that Thomo Wamo is saying that some quizzers take college classes while in high school. Still. Your quizzing career, as far as AACS goes, ends when you graduate high school. There are some circumstances when a quizzer graduates early and doesn't go to college, and so they quiz the remainder of their years of eligibility.
Luke: I am in college and I know I do not have time to memorize the whole text. I'll probably be strugglin to get the 46 verses for IDS done by July 4. But I'm sure some dude or dudette out there could do it.
Okay there is my feeble attempt at assistance…..

Wellsbo, I assume that “Thomo Wamo” is me; if it is, would it be to much to ask that you use my proper name (David) instead of the slang?
Anyway, in reply to your post:
I was not just talking about taking a few college classes (although they are included), I did indeed mean a full-time college student, graduated from High School, who is or was quizzing at that time. Because of the various rules in regards to the actual “cutoff” age, it is entirely possible for a person to graduate, start attending college, and still have a year of two of quizzing left. Although as I mentioned above, some styles allow quizzing until a person wishes to quit; just at a different level than we normally do. That is why I asked him to define “retired”; because of this variance in the rules.
It would seem that he defines it as being graduated from High School; in whcih case, I must agree with his original post: that we do indeed outnumber the current quizzers by a considerable amount.

Yes… A very, very few out of the many quizzers that I know. It is not an easy task in the slightest. For them, quizzing is their recreation and that is how they find the time to do both.

Not as good as they could be if they only had quzzing to concentrate on, but I would have to say “yes”. I'm told that good time management is essential.

Well then I would say that a retired quizzer is somebody who doesn't quiz anymore. If you are quizzing then you are not retired. We still outnumbeer them probably quite closely to luke's ratio….

So how about the people in Florida who quiz once or twice a year? Do they count as retired or current? They still “quiz”, yet…

Na, I say they're still retired… that quiz is just for fun i guess. The rules are totally diffrent and everything, and the portions short, so all the coaches and quizmasters can show us how quizzing really done.

Are you gonna say that Magic Johnson isn't retired just because he shoots a basketball every once and a while (or probably more than that)? Do elderly guys not every work after they retire? Of course not. I quizzed sometimes last year against my sister, but i'm still a “retired quizzer.”
