It's hard to believe that the National Champion didn't earn our #1 ranking! I personally will go ahead and admit that I was the voter who had a tie for first place. Just wondering what all you folks think. Should winning nationals automatically make you the #1 team?

I think that's about right. If CalFl had taken top 3 at SCQANIT I could see them taking the top spot, but in my mind Faith SC is the best team. Too bad they wern't at Nationals.

I think that Faith (SC) is the best team since they beat Calvary FL (and every other team for that matter) at Scqanit. Sure Nationals is the quiz to win, but thats like Padraig Harrington winning the Tour while Tiger is gone. (Just a reference, not true fact.) Calvary did an EXCELLENT job winning nats. But I know from experience that Scqanit is harder to win….

Faith did not have to deal with NY and Mukwonago later in the day like Calvary did, due to both teams early exits. Obviously, both teams were far better than they placed, and they showed it at Nationals. Not taking away from what Faith did. They quizzed well all day showed consistency.

But they are still the best team. I would take them head-to-head with any other team in the country…..

I think it is a benefit for a great team (like Faith) to not be at AACS for purposes of our ranking. First, they won their last tournament and they are in the clubhouse. So, there is nothing anyone can do at AACS to over come that. Second, while the style of quizzing and questions are different at the two events and many teams split their preparation and maybe even favor AACS, they get to prepare for SCQANIT alone. Third, as the day wears on, they know the end is in sight. As Old Paths starts thinking about how a longer Monday may effect them on Tuesday, Faith is only focused on the one event. Finally, they can piece together a top group mixed of high school and middle school students and not worry about camaraderie ramifications the next day at a high school only even. Now, for all those advantages, there is a huge disadvantage. In five years, the BibleQuizzer.net ranking for 2009 will be forgotten, but the chart of AACS rankings will still have the AACS winner listed. Mr. Wood runs a fine tournament that some may soon see as the pinnacle, especially if states keep dropping out of AACS, but that panache has just not been duplicated…YET.
As for our voting, I think it is fine. And we certainly have enough voters to make sure that any biases are overcome. As for my personal vote, that remains classified but I was REALLY close to the final standings.

Well, you know more about golf than I do. (does that tell you anything?) I've never heard of Padriag whatever. I think miniature golf is the hardest rec activity ever…jk!

Hey, I went miniture golfing in SC and broke 60! That takes some serious skill. I'll tell you this, though: I wasn't the worst in our group, not by a long shot. And I'll even be kind and polite and not mention any names…. yet.

Luke that's great!!! The most I've ever scored is 50 or so. While vacationing we usually mini-golf at least once, so I'll have to try to break your record this summer. I'm probably the only person who ever has to scream to the other golfers, “FORE! LOOK OUT!” before my golf ball plummets back down…right into the water. (I'm exaggerating but I really am bad at it)
I would say that the topic has swayed from the original. Oh well.

Well, since we are still on the subject of golf…
When my family was vacationing in New Hampshire last year, we went miniature golfing.
My dad beat me by 2 points! ARG!
(he's very competitive)

Faith was and is a much better team! They beat us hands down at SCQANIT, and had they gone to nationals, I'm sure there would have been a repeat performance . They have a depth that is simply lacking in a lot of the other teams out there. I personally can't wait to see what happens next year!
( oh, and i stink at minigolf too. Though once i did make a hole in one when my ball rocketed into the air after hitting a rock, came back to earth and went in. But most the other times it would just go into the water, or the other courses . I'll take biblequizzing over mini golf any day! )

My vote will remain laughably confidental as well.
I would argue it's more difficult to win at Nationals.
I would also argue that the unknown does have to be a factor, which makes it harder on voters.
If you treat each tournament equally (and I guess we're assuming just SCQANIT and AACS), then since FaithSC won, Calvary won, and FaithSC beat Calvary with their only opportunity, then Faith > Calvary.
If you do not treat each tournament equally, but simply view AACS as a step up from SCQANIT, then Faith = Calvary.
If you treat AACS as THE tournament to win regardless, and knowing that a team's desire to win at other tournaments is not as strong, then Faith < Calvary.
My vote reflects my opinion, keyword: opinion.
However, if you believe the latter opinion, then the question is, Should the winner of AACS always be the number 1 vote getter? That's where you have to look past simply one week of quizzing and look at the season as a whole.

If you look at the season as a whole Faith is an easy winner. They took top 3 at every tournament the attended(at least at the tournaments I saw them at, and you know what? They placed higher than us every time!) Calvary wasn't nearly as good earlier in the year as they were at Nationals, so in my mind Faith is the best team.

I think that since we are voting on who is the best team in the country then you have to look at more than AACS. It has been proven in years past that the best team did not always win AACS because they did not attend. I think that Faith is the best team in the country right now. i think that around CI that pleasant view was the best: they won with no losses I think. But because faltering down the stretch (and maybe a lack of sleep) they fall from that number one spot.
Mini golf: I stink sooo much at it. I have made several hole-in-one shots tho. I made a hole in one wall. a hole in one car. A hole in one window. A hole in one head (I did bean somebody in the head but I dont think it mad a hole…lol) Only somebody with as much professional talent as I have could do all those things efficiently.
P.S. Why did I throw that stuff in there about PVKY being number 1 at CI?? I am such KY homer. lol

The biggest point that few are mentioning is…Do you consider which teams are using quizzers not in high school? Even if faith could quiz at nationals, their best quizzer couldn't quiz. Should that factor into the discussion?

DP. In my mind (and it is a weird one let me tell you) we are evaluating the best team. Not the best team at nationals. Faith SC doesn't go to Nats period so their ranking is not affected by one of their quizzers ineligibilty to go to nationals….
He wasn't innocent faithy. He was a worker at the Mini Golf place. He also told me that I had the poorest golf swing he has ever seen in his life…..hahaha. I thought my swing was pretty good, especially after I hit him in the head from across the course. ahahah ahha aha
