On Saturday, October 4, seven teams from three ministries met at Faith Baptist Canoga Park for a half-day of quizzing over the full passage of Romans and James. This was the first time we had met each other since CAST in June. Everyone was a little nervous to quiz over new chapters, but the nerves dissipated when we saw our old friends.
A few changes happened over the summer. First Baptist Long Beach lost their two long-time coaches, one to teach in a mission school overseas and another to teach at another area Christian school. We are praying he is able to start another Bible Quiz team at the new school. Ms. Linda Rivera answered God’s call to step into the Bible Quiz Coach shoes at First Baptist. With equipment on loan from Bethel Baptist Carson, some sample questions, lots of advice, and many prayers from both Coach Yuvienco from Bethel and Coach Castner from Faith, she coached her first quiz.
Her team worked hard at the memorization. The chapters they knew, they were solid on—enough to secure second place by the end of the day. Nathaniel Villareal, Josiah Poblete, and Manasseh Osei-Kwarteng led their team in scoring throughout the day. Nana Konoma Osei-Kwarteng led the elementary team in scoring and encouraged her team to strive to improve between rounds.
Bethel Baptist Carson brought their senior high team. They were stronger than the other teams were led to believer, taking two mid wins in the first two rounds of eliminations, before succumbing to two lows back-to-back for fifth place.
Faith Baptist Canoga Park fielded four teams: Contenders (varsity team), Swords (JV girls), Shields, (JV boys), and Bucklers (Elementary + Coach Castner). The Swords and Shields worked hard and had a good first quiz that is paying off with recommitment to memorization, review, and practices. The Bucklers had a good all-around team, helped out by Miss Castner on the Romans chapters, since their fine arts covers only James. The ended up in third place for the day.
Grace Christian led the Faith Baptist Contenders (Varsity team) in quizzing while Jared Maack led the team in strategy and morale. They took a low loss in two-team championship quizzing against First Baptist by a three-question spread before capturing first place in the last round by a one-question spread.

Fall Festival Stats

All teams are looking forward to the “Thankful for the Bible Tournament” on Saturday, November 1, at Faith Baptist. Lord willing, the November tournament will be livestreamed on YouTube on the “FBS Bible Quiz” channel (@FBSBibleQuiz). The teams will be very strong this year, and only prayer plus diligence to memorization and review will result in victories.
