Jeremiah Townsend–A PQA Genius

My name is Jeremiah Townsend. I’m a graduate of Tabernacle Baptist College. I have had the privilege to work with Bible Quiz for the past five years. My primary experience has been with the Piedmont Quizzing Association (PQA) and as coach of the team from Pleasant View Baptist Church in Taylors, SC. I’m very thankful for this opportunity, and I count myself blessed to be able to work with the young people! I am greatly encouraged by how God is using His Holy Word to make them into the Christians He wants them to be!

This year I was contacted by biblequizzer.net and asked to take on the roll of PQA correspondent. I am very excited about this and am looking forward to this new roll in Bible Quiz!

Here is a little information about PQA. David Douglas and Carl Altizer were the co-founders of the Piedmont Quizzing Association. David did most of the planning, and Carl made most of the contacts to get churches involved. The first quizzes were held in September 1985. The idea was to involve more young people in Bible quizzing on a more frequent basis. The year’s material was divided into 6 parts, and 6 monthly quizzes were scheduled – one for each section of the material – with a final all day double elimination tournament over the entire material. From the beginning, material was chosen to coincide with the AACS material in order to help AACS quizzers better prepare for their school competitions, while at the same time providing good competition for those not eligible for AACS. To emphasize the team concept, some rules were changed. Individuals quiz out with 5 correct or 4 errors; no passing of answers is allowed; and teams receive a 20-point bonus when 5 team members answer a question. PQA’s 20th season begins August 21, 2004, with more than 30 teams from 9 different ministries.

I want to say a special Thank-you to Bro. George Wood for helping me with the information on the league. I also want to thank him for all the hard work he puts into the League. Thank-you!
