Humility Lofgren

Favorite Memorized Passage

“For by grace are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:8-10

One of the most dominant quizzers over the past cycle of material would have to be Humility Lofgren from Heritage Mission (NY).  While Humility’s senior season was unfortunately cut short by the COVID19 pandemic, her career was absolutely textbook.  Starting at the young age of seven in the 2010 season, it would be safe to say Humility possessed the Bible Quiz pedigree. Although many of her siblings preceded her as strong quizzers, in the opinion of, Humility takes the cake as the highest performing Lofgren.

Under the influence and coaching of great minds such Ms. Rogers, her uncle John, and her own father Paul, Humility seemed to have all the traits needed to be a great quizzer: An amazing gift of recall, ambition, patience, and little if any risk aversion.  It was a combination of these elements that propelled Humility time after time to own the momentum of a quiz. Winning a major tournament is no easy feat and Humility has three of them, citing the 2018 CI victory as her favorite Bible Quiz memory.

Her last three seasons of quizzing were exceptional. Winning three majors, consistently leading Heritage Mission to top three finishes, and almost always placing as a top five quizzer individually. These years the lowest her team ranked nationally was fourth, placing second in two of those seasons.

According to Humility, the Lord used her time in Bible quizzing in a variety of ways to influence her life. She says, “without it, I never would have been motivated to memorize portions of the Bible, and thus would not have understood it as well as I do. Additionally, it also helped me overcome my shyness, taught me strategy, and to have a sportsmanlike attitude when the outcome I wanted didn’t happen.”

While her traditional quizzing days are over, Humility practically advises her former competitors and  current quizzers to study hard. “It eases a ton of nerves knowing you are well prepared. Also, be completely focused in your quizzes, and in between them, loosen up, have some water and relax.”  We are happy to induct Humility Lofgren into the Hall of Fame Class of 2020. Congratulations to Humility!
