Startup Your Week: Long Words

Startup Your Week continues through the controversy, to bring you, the readers, non-controversial answers to non-controversial questions! Seriously though, in reading what Lindsay’s alter egos had to say, I must say I agree with some of everything. Is Athens a great tournament usually? Yes. Was Athens a great tournament this year? Absolutely. Could there be any improvements? Sure, but let’s remember to be thankful for the opportunity, and quizmasters and scorekeepers are prone, like us, to make mistakes. I, for one, had a great time!

Longest word in the Bible
Sandra, CA

Well, I had to do a little research on this, but if you could all turn in your Bible to Isaiah 8. Please read silently as I read it aloud: (in Jesse’s voice): Moreover the LORD said unto me, Take thee a great roll, and write in it with a man’s pen concerning Maher-shalal-hash-baz.

Notice it now?!?!
It means “swift is booty, speedy is prey.” My source is this website.
If you notice on the website it mentioned another long name in the title Psalm 56. I implore you to check it out!

Do you think Woodside will do as good in the future as they did at Athens?
Carl, FL

Let’s give credit where credit is due. Woodside was the number one seed in the morning. They did take middle wins and even a loss to both Pleasant View and FBC-CF. And yes, they even took a middle win to the 25th seed in the tournament. But Woodside DID win the tournament. The final quiz was close, and the quiz before that was even closer, but Woodside did what no-one else has been able to do for over a year: eliminate Pleasant View Kentucky from a tournament.

That wasn’t your question though. Can they duplicate their success? I think Woodside could win another of the big four, FBC-CF could win another one, and Pleasant View could win one. I’d give the edge to Woodside at SCQANIT actually, where the questions are similar and the style of tournament is similar as well. I suspect PVKY to win in Colorado, and I’m not sure who can go the distance at AACS. Woodside has a solid team: in their final quiz Jason, their best quizzer, only got one question right! And they ended with a score of 220! This includes a quizout from Ben with no errors, and 4 right from Matt with no errors. Is one member on their team better than Aaron? Probably not, but as a team they compliment each other and have good synergy. Plus they’re survivors, and they were able to get middle wins when it mattered. That, my friends, is a recipe for success.

So, in short, yes.
