The Piedmont Quizzing Association held its September quizzing at the Hampton Park Baptist Church, in Greenville, South Carolina.
The day was filled with some very good quizzing. But after two months of quizzing I would say “parity” best describes the league. There are no Faith 3 powerhouse teams of years gone by, although there are a number of very good teams. For the past 3 or 4 years there have been at least one or two teams that just dominated the competition, but this year I would say any of the top 10 or so teams could easily be the next PQA Champions. Is the competition getting better or is it just a down year, only time will tell.

Today’s Featured Scoreboard
#13 Calvary Challengers over #15 Pleasant View Heirs of Promise (210 -150)
At question 11 Pleasant View trailed by a mere 20 points, but things went down hill from there and Calvary pulled out a fairly easy win. Leah Rigsby of Calvary quizzed out on question 19 without errors. Danae Binns of Calvary also quizzed out on question 17.
#10 Calvary Watchmen over #20 Temple Swords (310-90)
Calvary was tied for 10th with the Greenville Purple a point that I failed to point out in my previous article. My apologies to the guys from Calvary. This team has really matured a lot from last year. They are amazing at times to say the least. They are lead by their All Star quizzer Tyler Ziemer. Tyler had a great quiz quizzing out seemingly at will on question 17. I watched as he would give his teammates opportunities especially on the rebounds so he could stay in longer to help ensure the team a victory. Jonathan Simmons also quizzed really well, and he quizzed out on question 19. This is a very young team and it may cost them a win here and there but I can tell you this is the team no one wants to quiz in an elimination quiz. Good work guys!
#24 Faith 1 over #12 Temple Shepherds (250-140)
This quiz was never really close. Faith looked like they were getting back into form after a terrible start to the year. Dale Forsythe quizzed out without errors on question 15. Hannah Gentry quizzed out for Temple on question 19.
#1 Calvary Chosen over #1 Faith 5 (230-130)
Both teams came into the quiz undefeated, but Calvary behind another strong quiz by its All Star quizzer Casey Lovegrove rolled to an easy victory. Casey quizzed out on question 10.
#7 Hampton Park Fishermen over #13 Faith 2 (230-150)
Daniel Flaaten quizzed out without errors on question 17. This quiz was never close even though on paper it would have looked to be one of the best quizzes on the day. Meredith Bryson and Marilyn Bielmyer of Faith never seem to get going. Their Teammate Kaitlyn Dean quizzed well with 4 correct and no errors.
Next months quizzing will be held Saturday October 13th. at The Calvary Baptist Church in Simpsonville, SC. All regular season quizzing will begin at 2pm. Hope to see you there!
