Yesterday afternoon, the Southeast Bible Quiz Association held the second quiz meet of the 2016-2017 Bible quiz season. The event took place at the Temple Baptist Academy campus in Powell, TN. It turned out to be a very exciting event. The field of teams included a team from West Park Baptist church, a team from Rhea County TN, and two teams from Temple Baptist Church.
This month, there were several close quizzes. In the first round Rhea County (Joshua Jouben, Jadon Jouben, Jonathan Jouben, JuliAnn Jouben, and Karis Kroeker) faced Temple Endurance (Kierstin Balka, Luke Hancock, and David Thompson). Rhea County raced to an early 100 to 20 lead, but the score was tied up 100 to 100 by question 10. In the end Rhea County held on for a narrow 150 to 170 victory. In the second round, West Park Baptist (Scott Firebaugh and a new quizzer named Cody Hubbard from Grace Christian Academy) faced Rhea County. The West Park Baptist team only had two quizzers so they needed to quiz a flawless match or both quizzers would quiz out or error out and the Rhea County team would be able to sit for the whole question for the last 10 questions and win the quiz match. Surprisingly, West Park Baptist had the lead going into the last question. On the last question, Karis Kroeker from Rhea County tied the score and then got the tie breaker question correct to pull out another close victory. In the final round, Rhea County faced Temple Courageous (Caleb Hancock, Johnny Hancock and Luke Thompson). Temple Courageous was led by Caleb Hancock to an early 120 to 40 lead on question 8. At that point, Rhea County started a serious comeback which resulted in a 20 point lead for Rhea County going into the last question. On the final question, Temple Courageous won the jump, but got an error so Rhea County held on for their third win of the day and won the team of the month trophy.
There were four different quizzers that quizzed out forward with five correct answers in a single quiz match and won a Quiz Out Achievement Ribbon. They are as follows:
1. Scott Firebaugh – West Park Baptist
2. Caleb Hancock – Temple Courageous
3. JuliAnn Jouben – Rhea County
4. Kierstin Balka – Temple Endurance
The Quizzer of the Month award was hotly contested this month as the top two quizzers quizzed out multiple times and tied in points. As a result, a tie breaker rule was used which gives the award to the quizzer that quizzed out the most times. When this rule was applied Scott Firebaugh from West Park Baptist finished in second place and Kierstin Balka from Temple Endurance was awarded the Quizzer of the month medal.
I am attaching the team results and individual results for your review. It is very encouraging to see the time that these quizzers and their parents have invested in God’s Word, and it is exciting to think about the way God will use it in their lives in the years to come.
